HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON NAVY VISIT TO NAVAL DOCKYARD LIMITED
The House of Representatives Committee on Navy, led by the Chairman, Hon Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, paid a visit to Naval Dockyard Limited on 14 - 15 Nov 24. The Committee was briefed on the activities of the Yard. Thereafter, the Committee was given a guide tour of the Yard to see the ongoing Seaward Defence Boats (SDB) IV and V project. They were also shown the Galvanizing and Electroplating workshops. During a press conference, the Chairman highlighted the significance of the Dockyard as the Hub of Naval Engineering in Nigeria. He acknowledged the pivotal role the Yard plays in maintaining the operational readiness of the Nigerian Navy through maintenance and repairs of naval ships. Reflecting on their tour of various units within the Western Naval Command AOR, the Chairman expressed an understanding of the Navy's challenges. "We have seen where we need to intervene as representatives of the people," he stated. The Committee emphasized the urgent need for increased federal government budgetry allocation to the Nigerian Navy which would strengthen the Yard's capacity. They pledged to advocate for more resources and policies that would enhance its infrastructure and efficiency. The visit underscores a commitment to bolstering Nigeria’s maritime security and naval capability.
